Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday announced his support for his Saudi “brothers” led by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, official PA news agency Wafa reported.

Abbas expressed his opposition to any foreign interference in the internal affairs of Saudi Arabia, considering this “undermining its sovereignty”.

This came, according to Wafa, in the wake of the Canadian request from Saudi Arabia to release imprisoned activists in the Kingdom.

Wafa reported Abbas describing the Canadian request as a “flagrant interference in the internal affairs of Saudi Arabia,” calling for the Arab states to stand beside the Kingdom and reject the Canadian interference.

Early yesterday, Saudi Arabia recalled its ambassador to Canada and announced that the Canadian ambassador to Riyadh is “persona non grata”.
