Unemployment rate in Turkey drops in September

The unemployment rate in Turkey decreased to 11.5 percent in September, down from 11.8 percent, official data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) shows.

According to data, the seasonally adjusted measure of labour underutilisation rose to 21.9 percent from 21.7 percent.

The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over fell by 70,000 to nearly 3.8 million, TurkStat also said.

“The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 21.5 percent, with 0.9 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month,” the Institute said.

The data also states the number of paid employees in the industry, construction and trade-service sectors, which was over 12.5 million in August 2020, increased by 9.4 percent or to 13.7 million people in the same month of 2021.
