Algerian security services arrested three senior officials of the Islamic Salvation Front on Sunday, after they warned that blocks were being put in place by officials which would cause a threat to the security and stability of the country.
Local sources said the detainees are political activist and movement’s spokesperson, Ali Bin Hajar, the prominent Islamic thinker, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Zawi, and political activist Saadi Mabrouk.
The movement recently issued a statement titled “Frames of the Authentic Front,” in which it called on authority to engage in dialogue and stop human rights violations.
A leader of the Islamic Salvation Front, Sheikh Ali Belhaj, considered the arrests “unjustified”, and called for the men’s immediate release.
“Brother Ali Bin Hajar, Al-Zawi, and brother Saadi are all members of the Islamic Salvation Front, who had been elected into their positions,” he added.
