British Royal Marines reservists have completed a military medical training program in Libya, in the first such training to be provided in ten years.

In a a press release by the Royal Navy, it revealed that a short-term training team spent a week in Libya’s western capital, Tripoli, delivering training to 30 medics – both civilian and military – with the aim to “equip Libyan medical personnel with the skills necessary to save lives in challenging battlefield conditions”.

The training, which was reportedly held at a villa in the capital, covered military medical training to prioritise immediate life-saving interventions, as well as prolonged field care for casualties in remote or barren environments.

Praising the Libyan participants for being “enthusiastic and eager to learn” and for “demonstrating a strong commitment to improving their medical capabilities” Corporal Rhys Banfield from RMR Bristol stated that by “equipping Libyan medics with advanced medical skills, we have contributed to enhancing the country’s healthcare infrastructure and its ability to respond to emergencies.”

Banfield added that the training as an “investment in human resource will undoubtedly save lives and improve the overall health and well-being of the Libyan people.”
