The Israeli occupation army’s plan to displace Palestinians from the besieged Gaza Strip suggests “war time” as the best period to implement the plan rather than during a “ceasefire”, Channel 12 reported yesterday.
The army’s plan was proposed at the request of Defence Minister Israel Katz who announced on Monday the formation of a “directorate” tasked with facilitating the “voluntary” displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.
The so-called “directorate” includes representatives from various government ministries and defence bodies including the Coordinator for Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) led by General Ghassan Alian.
According to the Israeli report, the plan assumes that “during war, Gazans will gather in humanitarian areas isolated from combat zones, which will facilitate transporting them out of the enclave.”
Israeli security officials also believe that if the plan is implemented during the ceasefire, the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, will thwart it by preventing Palestinians from leaving Gaza.
The Defence Ministry’s decision to form the “authority” comes in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s stated plans to ethnically cleanse the Palestinians from Gaza and transform the Strip into “the Riviera of the Middle East”.
The channel said while the Israeli government has decided to adopt Trump’s initiative, no country has so far agreed to receive displaced Gazans, despite intensive pressure from the US administration.
