Constitutional expert says army has no respect for Egyptian blood

A leading constitutional expert has condemned the Egyptian coup leaders for having no respect for the blood of the people and turning against the democratic process. Tariq Al-Beshry said that it looks highly unlikely that Egypt can reach an understanding and peaceful solution to the political crisis in the wake of the massacres in Rabaa Al-Adawiyya and Al-Nahda Squares.

Al-Beshry added that he holds the coup leaders and the supreme military council fully responsible for the bloodshed on Wednesday. Such violence by the authorities is, he believes, a “natural outcome” of the military coup against constitutional legitimacy.

He called upon the demonstrators to maintain their commitment to peaceful protest until the full return of legitimacy and the prosecution of those involved in the killing of Egyptian citizens.
