Hamas accuses Abbas of opposing the Egyptian revolution and defending Mubarak regime

February 20, 2014 at 3:32 pm

The Islamic Resistance Movement has accused Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas of being hostile to the Egyptian revolution and defending the regime of the former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

A spokesman for Hamas, Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, said in a statement that President Abbas “warned the US administration of the consequences of the fall of Mubarak’s regime”. This, claimed Dr Abu Zuhria, “is evidence of his hostility towards the Egyptian revolution, and his defence of corrupt regimes.”

According to Abu Zuhri, “these statements represent flagrant interference in the internal affairs of an Arab state which supports our cause.”

He ended by stressing his movement’s support for the Egyptian revolution and its rejection of Mahmoud Abbas’s statements; they do not, he claims, reflect the position of the Palestinian people.
