Livni says peace talks are intended to serve Israel's interests

Israel's chief negotiator has said that the aim of the peace talks is to serve Israel's interests, not the Palestinians' or America's. "The peace negotiations with the Palestinians do not aim to unmask their real intentions," said Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, referring to remarks by a source within Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office two days ago.

Israel Radio quoted Livni on Tuesday morning as saying that Israel aims to reach an agreement that best serves Israeli interests. "We will have to cede some parts of this land in order to preserve the values of a Jewish and democratic state," she added.
