Haniyeh: Qassam Brigades’ strength will surprise the world

January 8, 2016 at 10:36 am

Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh said yesterday that the Qassam Brigades, the movement’s armed wing, will “surprise the world with its strength in any future confrontation with the occupation”.

Speaking during an event to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Yahya Ayyash, a Hamas operative who was assassinated by Israel, Haniyeh said: “We are building our strength not to defend Gaza, which is free despite the Israeli siege, but to defend and liberate the West Bank and Jerusalem.”

He went on to stress that the intifada will continue until “the land is free”.

“The uprising has surpassed many obstacles and attempts to abort it politically and is now larger than any party’s attempt to extinguish it,” he added.

Haniyeh slammed those who accuse his movement of seeking to establish a state in Gaza, saying the accusations are “nonsense”.
