Israeli authorities tighten security measures in Jerusalem

February 11, 2016 at 11:31 am

The Israeli authorities have recently tightened security measures in occupied Jerusalem and imposed severe restrictions on the movement of its Palestinian residents, Quds Press reported on Wednesday.

Quds Press reported the arrest of two Palestinian women by Israeli border guards in Jerusalem’s Old City as an example of the increased security measures.

Palestinian citizen Fatemah abu-Sneineh told Quds Press that Israeli border guards arrested her sister Asia and her friend Amal Othman from the Old City “without a prior alert”.

Fatemah also said that Israeli border guards fired tear gas at a Palestinian youth who attempted to prevent the arrest of the two women.

The women were then taken to an investigation centre, searched and questioned, before being released.

A Quds Press reporter said that the increased security measures were mainly around Damascus Gate and and Herod’s Gate.

The reporter added that the Israeli forces have erected three military checkpoints in Al-Tour neighbourhood in East Jerusalem, stopping Palestinian vehicles to search them which has caused traffic congestion.
