Iraqi President Fouad Masum yesterday ratified the death sentences against 36 people found guilty of committing the 2014 mass killing of hundreds of Iraqi air force cadets by Daesh in northern Iraq.
“The Iraqi president has approved all the death sentences handed down in the crime of the Speicher Camp,” the presidency Information Office said in a statement.
According to the statement, the signed decrees were sent to the relevant executive authorities for implementation.
In June 2014, Daehs militants seized the city of Tikrit, 160 kilometres north of Baghdad, and killed some 1,700 security officers affiliated with the Speicher air base in the city.
