Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump today won the US elections beating Democrat hopeful Hillary Clinton.

Republicans also retained control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Trump beat his rival to become America’s 45th President with a tally of 276 against Clinton’s 218.

In response to the news, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim today congratulated Trump on his victory saying it was an opportunity to further bilateral relations.

In a speech in the capital Ankara, Yildirim said a “new page” would be opened in US-Turkey relations if Washington extradited the US-based cleric Turkey blames for orchestrating the 15 July failed coup.

“An area of opportunity has been created for the new president to advance relations with policies taking into account Turkey’s fight against terror,” Yildirim said.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said: “The Egyptian Arab Republic is looking forward to the period of Donald Trump’s presidency to imbue new spirit into the path of Egyptian-American ties with more cooperation and coordination in the interests of both the Egyptian and American people.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Trump a telegram to congratulate him. “Putin expressed hope for joint work to restore Russian-American relations from their state of crisis, and also to address pressing international issues and search for effective responses to challenges concerning global security,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
