Netanyahu: We are holding talks with other countries ready to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

On Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Tel Aviv is holding talks with countries beside the US on the topic of recognising occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

“We are currently contacting other countries that will recognise Jerusalem in the same way the US did. There is no doubt that when the US embassy moves to Jerusalem, and even before that, many other embassies will move to Jerusalem, it is time for that,” Netanyahu said in a press statement.

Netanyahu was speaking at a conference on digital diplomacy, which has been held on Thursday, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He added: “We were all touched on Wednesday when we heard President Trump’s historic declaration who recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”

He also stated that “President Trump’s name will be forever attached to the history of our capital, and his name will be commemorated alongside other names in the history of Jerusalem and our glorious people.”

“I thank him and I also thank the US Congress, which prepared the ground 22 years ago for the recognition of Jerusalem until President Trump arrived and implemented this law,” Netanyahu said.

On Wednesday, the Hebrew radio station Reshet Bet said that the President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte, sent a letter to Israel announcing that he is considering moving the Philippine Embassy to Jerusalem.

The radio station also explained that the US announcement of President Donald Trump’s intention to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move his country’s embassy to Jerusalem, was followed by letters from other countries to the occupation’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressing their intention to transfer their embassies to Jerusalem.
