A Moroccan diplomat revealed that the US President Donald Trump links his country’s continued support for Morocco, in the conflict with the Polisario Front on the Sahara region, with withdrawing Rabat from the competition to host the 2026 World Cup.
The diplomat, whose identity was not revealed by the Moroccan Al-Ousboue newspaper, explained that Trump informed him about this during a personal meeting they recently held.
The source added: “Trump was did not disguise this game, which wanted to remove the Moroccan candidacy from the world cup.”

The US president announced his support for a joint bid shared with Canada and Mexico for the 2026 World Cup and threatened the countries that intend to support Morocco bid.
The U.S. has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup. It would be a shame if countries that we always support were to lobby against the U.S. bid. Why should we be supporting these countries when they don’t support us (including at the United Nations)?
