Chairperson of the African Union Moussa Faki Mahamat said the body will discuss new details of a unified African passport at its next summit.
The African official said he will present details on the design, production and issuance of the new passport at the 32nd Summit of the African Union which will take place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, in February.
“This step will make the long-awaited dream closer to reality, which will provide full freedom of movement across the African continent,” he added.
It is hoped the move will unify Africans, empower countries with weak passports and eventually create a seamless border in Africa.
