Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri accused Qatar and Turkey of supporting extremist groups in Libya and destabilising the North African country.

Shukri told a press conference yesterday that his country is closely monitoring the current situation in Libya, accusing Turkey of smuggling weapons there and adding that Qatar is pursuing Turkey’s policy in Libya.

Last month, Libya and Turkey agreed to open an immediate joint investigation into an arms shipment seized at a port near Tripoli coming from Turkey.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed in a statement at the time that Ankara rejects such acts, which do not represent the Turkish state’s policy or approach.
