A retired Israeli general has warned of catastrophic consequences if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejects the prisoner exchange deal with Hamas.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz quoted the former Yitzhak Brik as saying: “If Netanyahu rejects the deal once again, it will be like a nuclear bomb dropped on us.”

“If Netanyahu rejects the deal again, we will lose the prisoners forever and will be on the brink of a regional war.”

“The continuation of the war will not contribute at all to achieving victory; rather, Israel’s defeat will be even more painful.”

Brik also stressed that “if the Israeli army cannot defeat Hamas, it certainly will not be able to defeat Hezbollah,” referencing the Lebanese resistance faction.
