Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) head, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received on Sunday the credentials of Turkey’s new ambassador to Khartoum, Fatih Yildiz.

In a statement, cited by Anadolu, the Sovereignty Council announced that al-Burhan accepted Yildiz’s credentials in the presence of the Council’s Secretary-General, Mohamed Al-Ghali, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hussein Al-Amin.

During the meeting, Yildiz conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to al-Burhan, according to the statement.

Yildiz highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Turkey and Sudan, as well as the cooperative ties between the two nations. He affirmed that his country stands by the Sudanese people during the current crisis, expressing his hope for peace and stability in Sudan.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in approximately 18,800 deaths and nearly 10 million displaced persons and refugees, according to the United Nations.

Yildiz also stated that he would work to maintain fruitful cooperation with Sudan.

Yildiz replaces the former ambassador, Ismail Çobanoglu, who served as Turkey’s envoy to Khartoum for two years.

Sudanese-Turkish relations have strengthened over the past two decades, particularly since the Justice and Development Party came to power in Ankara, with a strategic plan to enhance engagement with African countries.
