A number of Israeli officials have criticised the Israeli occupation army and government in light of the continued threat posed by Hezbollah and the escalation of the war in Lebanon. Israeli media outlets spoke about the continued deterioration of the situation in the northern settlements, and noted the poor conditions that the settlers are living in, given the absence of a political solution.

Brigadier General (reserve) Ran Kochav told Israel’s Channel 12, that, “What we have been hearing about Hezbollah being dealt a blow and that it is lying on the ground is completely unrealistic.” He stressed that, “We are not finished and have not won. No one has raised the white flag yet, it is actually the opposite.”

The former occupation army spokesman admitted that, “Hezbollah’s strength is still there, the challenge is still ahead of us, and we will witness difficult days and moments.” Wondering how prepared Israel is for this, he added, “Hezbollah is heading towards exhausting us.”

In this context, Israeli strategic advisor Ayelet Frish told the same channel: “The settlers in the north are exposed to daily strikes and have been subjected to tons of missiles for over a year,” even as “the government continues its work as normal.”

As for the targeting of the Glilot military base, Israel’s Channel 13 quoted the former head of the Israeli Air Force Defence Division, retired Brigadier General Ilan Biton, as saying, “In terms of the battle of awareness, harming a place like the Glilot base is of great importance.” He pointed out that, “Hezbollah imposed a certain routine equation by targeting us, according to which it can launch about 100 missiles at us every day for an additional year.”

“Hezbollah is able to launch about 100 rockets every day at all of Israel for an entire year,” said Giora Zaltz, head of the Upper Galilee Regional Council. “This threat exists, and I fear that we will not succeed in eliminating it.”
