The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that Egypt rejects the establishment of any parallel government to the legitimate government in Sudan, Anadolu reported.
On Saturday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), along with Sudanese political factions and armed movements, signed a political charter in the Kenyan capital Nairobi to form a parallel government to the authorities in Sudan.
The Sudanese government protested against Kenya for hosting what it described as a “plot to establish a government” for the RSF.
In a statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, co-chaired a meeting of the political consultation mechanism between the two countries in Cairo.
They discussed strengthening ties and agreed to coordinate on water issues, Red Sea security and the Horn of Africa.
Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt “rejects any alternative framework or parallel government to the legitimate government in Sudan,” the statement said.
The two delegations reaffirmed the importance of preserving Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty, as well as respecting all its national institutions, including its armed forces, the statement added.
They also stressed the need to “avoid interference in Sudan’s internal affairs under any pretext and rejected any steps that would undermine Sudan’s sovereignty.”
Egypt, the statement added, reiterated its full readiness to contribute to the reconstruction process in Sudan.
