Hamas: Egypt's approach toward Palestinian parties has improved

February 17, 2014 at 11:19 pm

Deputy Chief of Hamas’ political bureau, Mousa Abu-Marzouq, said on Wednesday that Egypt’s stance towards Palestinian political parties has become more balanced.

Unlike the previous regime, Abu-Marzouq told the Algerian newspaper, Al-Khabar, that the current Egyptian regime is impartial towards Fatah. He emphasised the need for more changes in favour of all Palestinians.

Abu-Marzouq said while he supported the closure of the smuggling tunnels between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, it was necessary to create alternatives before closing them.

Regarding the internal Palestinian reconciliation, Abu-Marzouq said that it is “very necessary to face internal and external challenges.”

This, according to him, could be achieved when Mahmoud Abbas ignores external pressure and all factions work together to reform the PLO.
