Clearing Mubarak and convicting the January 25 Revolution

December 1, 2014 at 12:11 pm

Below is the text of a statement made by the signatories listed below.

The signatories of this statement call on all the Egyptian people – intellectuals, employees, farmers and workers, youth and students – to reject the court ruling that condemns the Egyptian people and condemns their revolution while clearing a repressive regime that made corruption and the absence of justice its slogans for a period of over 30 years.

It was clear to everyone with perfect vision that this regime spilled at will the blood of the Egyptian people and robbed them of their wealth. We call on all the factions of the Egyptian revolution and its loyal children to mark this ruling as the starting point for the endeavour to regain the January revolution, which the Mubarak regime managed – by virtue of the inattentiveness of the revolutionaries and their internal divisions – to topple and went on to persecute its children, to restore to power the symbols of oppression and corruption in an ominous launch of a new era of repression, theft of national wealth, squandering of resources, violation of the rights of Egyptians and usurpation of their freedoms, an era that may last for decades.

We should all be cautious regarding the repressive authority’s plan to reinforce division by means of hoisting banners and slogans that do not aim to restore the January revolution but rather to sow more division among its children.

We call upon all those concerned to rally once again around the aims of the January 25 Revolution and to turn its upcoming anniversary into a dawn for freedom, an end for oppression and a firm verdict to end all corruption and corrupt persons and to build a democratic state that respects freedoms, advances rights and liberties and enables the people to seize control of their resources and enjoy their bounties.

Long live free Egypt and long live the Egyptians’ revolution.
