An Egyptian court yesterday postponed the trial of ousted President Mohamed Morsi and 130 others in the “prison break” trial to Sunday.
The Cairo Criminal Court delayed the trial in order to continue to listen to the defence. Defendants, including Morsi, will continue to be held in prison.
Morsi was ousted from the presidency on 3 July 2013 following popular protests against his rule, which lasted for one year.
Commenting on the bombs that have exploded or got diffused in Egypt, a member of the defence committee said during the trial that the Muslim Brotherhood has nothing to do with these bombs because it is a peaceful group.
When Juge Shaaban Al-Shami asked who was responsible, the defence said: “Terrorism exists”.
The trial involves 131 defendants, 106 are fugitives and 25 are being held in prison. They are accused of breaking into 11 prisons, attacking police stations and kidnapping four police officers during the 2011 revolution.
