The Egyptian armed forces yesterday denied that they killed an officer in the military wing of Hamas during clashes with armed militias in Sinai, Youm Seven has reported.
A military source told the newspaper that the air force did not carry out aerial attacks during the period when it is claimed that the Palestinian was killed.
Although local media named the officer as Abdul-Ilah Qishtah and said that he was killed in Sinai, according to Youm Seven the Al-Qassam Brigades officer was actually killed in Libya. This, it claimed, was announced by his family.
A spokesman for Al-Qassam Brigades denied that one of its officers was killed in Sinai and reminded journalists that Hamas is a liberation movement and only engages with the Israeli occupation forces.
Hamas added that Qishtah was not one of Al-Qassam’s officers or even a Hamas member. It insisted, again, that it does not interfere in Egypt’s internal affairs. It called on the media to refrain from linking it to such domestic matters across the border.
