Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtan Lamamra has called for respecting Libya’s sovereignty and bolstering its institutions while condemning all forms of terrorism, according to Algerian radio.

In a statement following his meeting with Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Rahman Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Lamamra said: “Algeria calls for respecting Libya’s sovereignty and bolstering Libyan institutions through national reconciliation and renews its denunciation of all forms of terrorism.”

The head of Algerian diplomacy also explained that his country rejects, as a matter of principle, any foreign political or military intervention in Libya, and that it endeavours to convince the international community of this position and considers all military intervention does is provide justifications for extremist groups.

Lamamra added: “I believe that this serious development in Libya urges us to exert maximum efforts in order to encourage Libyans to engage in dialogue.”

“The terrorist operation that was perpetrated by a terrorist organisation called ISIS against innocent Egyptian nationals in Libya prompted us to exert more efforts in order to encourage the Libyans to engage in dialogue.”

The statements made by Lamamra come a day after the announcement by ISIS Libyan branch that it executed 21 Egyptian Copts on the shores of Tripoli. Egypt responded to this with air raids on the city of Derna, east of the country. The raids killed nine civilians and wounded many others.
