Israel demolishes a historic shrine near Nablus and seizes its stones

Israeli occupation forces have demolished a historic shrine near the city of Nablus in northern West Bank and seized its stones. Al Quds Press has reported.

Nasr Abu Gaish, the head of the village council of Beit Dajan (located near Nablus) explained to Quds Press reporters that the Israeli army’s Civil Administration Force demolished the Sheikh Kamel shrine, located to the east of the city. The occupation confiscated the stones of the shrine after demolishing it and moved them to an unknown destination, he added.

Abu Gaish said that the occupation authorities refused several requests to restore the historic shrine, arguing that the region is a military site used for military training by the Israeli army and that Palestinians are prevented from accessing it.

Experts attribute Israeli attacks on Palestinian historical and religious symbols to political and strategic reasons – the occupation exploits these religious sites in its expansion and annexation of Palestinian land.
