An Egyptian naval boat yesterday sailed deep into the waters near Rafah city, in the southern Gaza Strip.
Safa news agency reported the boat sailing three miles into Palestinian waters and standing across from Rafah’s port.
The agency added that the Egyptian boat tried to drag Palestinian fishermen’s boat into Egyptian waters but failed.
The Egyptian navy often fires at Palestinian fishermen claiming that they violated Egypt’s territorial waters.
A Palestinian fisherman was killed and several others were wounded in a series of Egyptian naval attacks against Palestinian fishermen from the Gaza Strip since the ouster of Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
This is the deepest incursion into Gaza’s waters and comes only one day after an Egyptian court sentenced nearly 130 people including leaders, prisoners and deceased members of the Al-Qassam Brigades to death or long prison sentences.
