Israeli occupation forces committed 574 rights violations against Palestinian journalists and their facilities in the occupied territories during 2015, Quds Press reported on Wednesday.
Quoting a report issued by the Union of Islamic Radio and TV stations in Palestine, the agency noted that the Israeli occupation authorities also killed two Palestinian journalists and wounded 190 others this year. In addition, the Israelis arrested 85 journalists and carried out 144 assaults against the staff of media organisations.
According to the report, the Israeli occupation used “excessive and lethal force” against journalists, in its effort to suppress the Palestinian voice which exposes Israel’s crimes in occupied Palestine.
Since the start of Jerusalem Intifada in October, the number of violations has risen sharply. Many journalists have been banned from covering incidents in a number of locations.
The Director of Asdaa Information Organisation in the occupied West Bank, Amin Abu Warda, told Quds Press that violations against Palestinian journalists are a “deep-rooted Israeli policy that started a long time ago.” At least 20 Palestinian journalists are currently detained by the Israels, he added.
