Hamas: Ties with Egypt have not been cut

March 1, 2016 at 1:12 pm

Communication between Hamas and Egypt has not been cut, senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan told Quds Press, adding that he hoped this would alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

“Despite what happened to the relationship between Hamas and Cairo, we, in Hamas, have preserved the continuation of the lines of communication, and we hope that these channels will lead to the improvement and development of our relations.”

He added: “We hope that this will lead to the easing of the blockade imposed on our people, opening the crossings, providing support for the Palestinian cause in order to return it as a central issue in the Arab and Islamic worlds.”

Hamdan said the Doha reconciliation meetings between Hamas and Fatah do not counter the Egyptian role in the Palestinian issue.

He noted that Palestinian factions seek to reach reconciliation through various mediation efforts in the region. “So, we welcome every effort made to support the reconciliation,” he added.
