‘Feasible politics needs powerful resistance,’ insists Meshaal

The leader of the Hamas political bureau has insisted that “feasible politics needs powerful resistance” in order to achieve its goals, Quds Press reported on Friday. Khaled Meshaal made his comments when speaking by telephone at the funeral of Palestinian fighter Mohamed Al-Faqih, who was killed by Israeli troops in Hebron.

“Any popular, legal and political action in favour of the national movement is important, but its power doubles when it is carried out in parallel with resistance,” Meshaal told mourners.

The Hamas leader stressed that politics which is not bolstered with resistance is weak and does not achieve anything in favour of the Palestinian issue. Furthermore, he placed emphasis on the importance of official and popular Palestinian unity in order to be able to support both resistance and political pathways. The message sent by the martyrs and Palestinian fighters, he added, is achieving internal reconciliation, which could not be achieved without national unity.

“In order to return the Palestinian cause as the central issue and top priority on the Arab and international agenda,” the Hamas official concluded, “we have to unite and agree on a joint political programme based on resistance and political action.”
