The Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement on Monday announced the transfer of 4000 new tents from Baghdad to Erbil to host the growing numbers of displaced people from the city of Mosul as the Iraqi forces continue their battle to retake it from the Islamic State grip.
Deputy minister, Jassim al-Attiya said in a statement to Anadolu agency that his ministry has distributed the new tents in its camps in the provinces of Salahuddin and Nineveh.
Al-Attiya added that more tents and relief items would be provided to host the displaced people.
According to Attiya the majority of people displaced from Mosul have sought refuge in the camps of Khazar and Hasan- Sham.
Meanwhile, an officer at the Federal Police said that at least 3,000 civilians have been displaced from Hamam al-Alil in the past 24 hours.
Lieutenant Tariq al-Waeli told Anadolu agency that the Iraqi forces have provided safe passage for civilians all the way to the villages south of Mosul and al Jadaa refugee camp.
The Iraqi forces retook two days ago Hamam al-Alil center and continue combing the surrounding villages.
More than 31,000 civilians have fled from the city of Mosul and its surrounding area since the beginning of the government’s operation to retake the city from Daesh.
