At least one person was killed on Thursday when Syrian regime forces carried out an attack using chlorine gas in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta region, according to a local source.

The attack targeted Eastern Ghouta’s opposition-held town of Arbin, Seraj Mohamed, a pro-opposition civil defence official, told Anadolu Agency.

One person was reportedly killed while numerous others were taken to field hospitals after suffering temporary asphyxiation due to gas inhalation.

“Regime forces stepped up attacks on Eastern Ghouta’s towns and villages a few days ago,” Mohamed said. “We are deeply concerned for civilian residents’ lives.”
