Billionaire Saudi Prince Al Waleed Bin Talal criticised the American journalist, Fareed Zakaria, who recently accused Saudi Arabia of being central “to the spread of terrorism.”

Responding to Zakaria’s recent article in The Washington Post titled “The Saudis played Donald Trump,” Talal said in a statement published in Arabic and English languages on his official Twitter account, that those Saudis who were involved in September 11 events do not represent all the Saudis.  He added, “We don’t live in the Middle Ages.”

Referring to Zakaria’s statements “The facts are well-known. For five decades, Saudi Arabia has spread its narrow, puritanical and intolerant version of Islam — originally practiced almost nowhere else — across the Muslim world”, the Saudi Prince stressed that these facts do not mean that the entire nation and its government are complicit in similar acts.

He acknowledged that the Saud Arabia does have shortcomings but its current leadership, especially the deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman are working hard to address them.

CNN recently announced that 15 of the 19 individuals, who were involved in the September 11 attacks, were Saudis. The agency added that the Saudis represent the second largest foreign fighters group in Daesh after the Tunisians.
