French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said yesterday that French troops will withdraw from Syria after a political solution is reached.

“France has troops in Iraq and some troops to support the US forces in Syria,” Le Drian told CNews television.

US President Donald Trump has been “flexible” regarding the issue of his country’s withdrawal from Syria,  Le Drian added, noting that after announcing an immediate withdrawal of US troops from Syria, Trump later explained that the troops would leave according to a calculated schedule.

On 19 December US President Donald Trump announced that his country had defeated Daesh in Syria and will withdraw its troops from the country.
