Israel paper: UAE arranged Sudan meeting with Netanyahu

Quoting a Sudanese military official, Hebrew newspaper The Times of Israel revealed that Abu Dhabi arranged the meeting between the President of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose term is over, in Uganda on Monday.

According to the source, who the newspaper described as a “high-rank” official, and whose name was not revealed, Abu Dhabi arranged the meeting of Al-Burhan and Netanyahu, and a narrow circle of senior officials in Sudan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt had known about it.

The source added that Al-Burhan agreed to meet Netanyahu because the officials thought that this would help “accelerate” the process of removing Sudan from the US terrorism list.

The official Twitter account of the office of Netanyahu revealed the latter’s meeting with Al-Burhan in Uganda and said that it was at the invitation of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, and they agreed to “start cooperation leading towards the normalization of relations between the two countries.”

The PLO and Palestinian factions condemned the meeting, while the Sudanese government said in a brief statement that it had not been notified or consulted about it.
