The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the British ambassador to Tehran to the ministry’s headquarters against the backdrop of the British authorities’ arrest of an Iranian on charges of violating unilateral US sanctions, and his subsequent extradition to the US.
A statement issued by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday stated that the British Ambassador to Tehran, Simon Shercliff, was summoned to the ministry and told of Tehran’s strong protest to the “illegal” arrest of an Iranian citizen in the UK and his extradition to the US.
The UK arrested Saeed Mousavi and extradited him to the US on charges of violating US sanctions. Mousavi appeared before a judge in the US for the first time on 22 July.
