The Palestinian Ministry of Health demanded the immediate release of the head of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, and all medical personnel detained in Israeli prisons, adding that their detention by Israeli occupation forces is a “flagrant violation of human rights and the rights of health workers.”

The ministry said in a statement that the attack on doctors and patients and the arrest of medical staff while they were performing their humanitarian duty is a violation of human and professional rights.

It called on international organisations, including the United Nations and human rights organisations, to urgently intervene to release Abu Safiya and all detained medical personnel, and to ensure the necessary protection for them so that they can perform their humanitarian duties in a safe environment.

Occupation forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital late last week, setting it on fire and putting it out of service. They detained more than 240 people who had taken shelter in the hospital, including medical staff, patients and the wounded.
