PA warns of Israeli attempts to deepen apartheid regime

December 14, 2015 at 12:09 pm

The Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs warned the international community on Sunday about the Israeli government’s attempts to deepen the apartheid regime in occupied Palestine. The ministry condemned Israel’s racist policies against the Palestinian people and its unprecedented escalation against them, saying that it intends to impose a fait accompli on the conflict.

According to a ministry statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is seeking to strengthen the occupation and deals with the Palestinians as if they have no political or national rights. This is done by a series of punitive and repressive measures which deepen the apartheid system in Palestine.

The PA ministry called for the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities towards the Palestinian people and urged it to compel Israel as an occupying power to back down from its attempts to foster an apartheid regime in Palestine and hold it accountable for its violations of international law. The UN should, it added, recognise the State of Palestine as a full member state of the international organisation. Those countries which do not yet recognise Palestine as a state should do so as a matter of urgency in response to the Israeli occupation, the ministry concluded, and in order to ensure the success of the peace process and the two-state solution.
