Hebron ‘executioner’ placed in open prison

April 2, 2016 at 2:10 pm

The Israeli soldier, who “executed” the Palestinian citizen Abdul-Fattah Al-Sharif last week, was put in an open prison inside an Israeli military base in the occupied Jordan Valley, media sources reported on Friday.

Qastina Military Court Judge Lieutenant Colonel Ronen Shor rejected the request of the Israeli Public Prosecution to extend the remand of the soldier.

However, Shor decided to release him to an open detention at the Kfir Brigade base in the occupied Jordan Valley until Tuesday.

The Israeli soldier shot Al-Sharif in his head from close range while he was lying on the ground and bleeding. He and another Palestinian were shot over a stabbing attack on an Israeli soldier in Hebron.

A video published by the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem showed clearly how the Israeli soldier shot the wounded Palestinian while he posed no danger.

The incident has caused an international outcry from the UN and human rights organisations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. Some have described it as an “extrajudicial killing” and “execution.”
