Saudi shoots down Houthi missile

November 15, 2016 at 11:45 am

Saudi air defence forces this morning intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Houthi rebels from war-torn Yemen, the Saudi-led coalition said.

The missile was fired into Saudi Arabia’s southern city of Najran but was shot down, the coalition said in a statement cited by the official Saudi Press Agency.

No injuries or damage were reported.

The coalition said its forces struck the source of the missile inside Yemen following the missile attack.

Last month, the Arab coalition said it had shot down a ballistic missile fired from Yemen toward the city of Makkah, a claim denied by the Houthis.

Impoverished Yemen has been wracked by chaos since late 2014, when the Houthi group overran the capital Sana’a and other parts of the country.
