Yemen stops scholarships to Iran

The Yemeni Ministry of Education has stopped student scholarships to Iran and decided not to adopt school certificates awarded by the Houthi administration.

In remarks to Anadolu News Agency on Tuesday, Dr. Abdullah Lamlas, Yemeni Minister of Education in the internationally recognised government, said his ministry has stopped scholarships to Iran because the students are fed destructive ideas around to sectarianism and factionalism.

He pointed out that 7,000 Yemeni student are currently receiving their education in the city of Qom in Iran.

The ministry will not also approve school certificates awarded by the Houthi-led regime in response to the group’s for violations of the ministry’s regulations.

The minister explained that the ministry uses the Grade Pont Average (GPA) system where 50 percent of the mark are awarded based on school work and 50 percent based on the ministry exam, however the rebels have refused to apply the cumulative GPA in areas they control.

The minister also explained that teachers who have been appointed by the Houthis after 2014 will not be paid and fired from their jobs while teachers who had been expelled by the rebels will return to work.
