Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs has said that his country will not even consider the request of the Syrian opposition that Iranian forces should leave Syria, RT Arabic reported on Tuesday. Hossein Gabri Ansari made his comments to Russia’s RIA Novosti.
“We will not look into this request and will not reply to it because it has been made by parties which have brought the Syrian people and the whole region into this crisis,” Ansari explained. The problems in Syria, he suggested, started due to the thoughts of the armed groups which are seeking to achieve swift results immediately after the fall of the ruling regime.
“We are seeking to cooperate with our Russian and Turkish partners in order to bring an end to the tragedy and start a new phase in Syrian life,” he pointed out. “The Syrians should be enabled to decide their future and the ruler they want directly by themselves.”
Ansari added that the first Russian, Turkish and Iranian meeting held in Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana, resulted in a mechanism to monitor the ceasefire in Syria, noting that another meeting is scheduled in two weeks’ time.
