PA closes NGO affiliated to sacked PLO official Yasser Abed-Rabbu

August 20, 2015 at 1:15 pm

Palestinian Authority (PA) closed the offices of the Palestinian Peace Alliance in Ramallah, run by the former secretary of the PLO Executive Committee Yasser Abed-Rabbu, Qudsnet reported.

Sources told Qudsnet that the PA also froze the NGO’s assets following a decree issued by President Mahmoud Abbas.

According to Qudsnet, Abbas issued the decree because the NGO worked without the cooperation of the PA, arrange meetings with Israeli officials and opening negotiation channels in EU capitals.

It reported sources saying PA security services closed the NGO’s offices on Tuesday at noon and issued directives to freeze its assets.

The PA security services also banned the organisation’s members from carrying out activities across the Palestinians territories, threatening to arrest them if they do.

Palestinian Peace Alliance Director Nidal Fokahaa wrote on Facebook that the organisation had always worked alone and took part in laying down the national agenda of the Palestinian elections in 2005 and 2006.

He added that he rejects the closure of the NGO.
