Picture of dead Syrian child increases Swedish support for refugees

There has been an eight per cent increase in the past week in the number of Swedish citizens who are in favour of their country opening its doors to refugees, a new survey has revealed.

The findings came after the images of Syrian child Alan Kurdi, whose body was found lifeless, washed up on a beach in Bodrum, Turkey, were circulated online.

A survey completed a week before the pictures were taken showed that 17 per cent of Swedes want their country to open its doors for all refugees. But one week after the Alan’s images were shared worldwide, 25 per cent of people wanted the borders opened.

The number of those who Sweden to close its doors in the face of the refugees decreased from 34 per cent to 29 per cent during the same period.
