Algerians boycott phone company funding Israeli settlements

Algerians are boycotting mobile phone provider VimpelCom following allegations its supports illegal Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territories, Israel’s Army Radio reported yesterday.

Social media platforms showed pictures and videos of Algerians breaking their SIM cards. Activists posted information and pictures that show the Jewish owner of VimpelCom, Mikhail Fridman, being the official sponsor of the Jewish-Russian conference.

“We will not allow one dinar from Algeria to be used against our brothers in Palestine,” a poster which circulated said.

The Russian Jewish businessman owns 49 per cent of VimpelCom, which operates the Djezzy service for mobile phones in Algeria.
