Israel extends detention of Palestinian journalist

March 11, 2016 at 2:21 pm

The detention of a Palestinian journalist from Tulkarm has been extended under the pretext that the Israeli occupation authorities have yet to complete their investigations.

Amani El-Gandab, the wife of journalist Sami Al-Saee, said the Salem Military Court extended her husband’s arrest by eight days.

In an interview with the Quds Press, El-Gandab added that the court accused her husband of incitement on Facebook, noting that he was being investigated on the same charge.

She pointed out that her husband “rejected” the charge and maintained that he “concludes his journalistic work in a completely professional way.”

Israeli occupation forces arrested the 35-year-old journalist on Wednesday at his home in the city of Tulkarm, after he was questioned there. His house was searched and he was prevented saying bye to his children before he was handcuffed and taken to the Israeli Hawara camp in the south of Nablus.

Saee works as a news editor for the local TV, Al-Fajer Al-Jadeed in the town of Tulkarm, and he previously worked as an editor and reporter for some Palestinian web sites. He was arrested by the occupying forces in 1997 then he was released four months later.
