Israeli journalist boasts soldiers watched his show from raided Palestinian home, sparking controversy

Israeli soldiers invaded and took over a Palestinian home in Tulkarem in the occupied West Bank. They then filmed themselves watching TV, in what appears to be the right-wing Israeli channel 14. The fate of the Palestinian homeowners is unclear.

An Israeli journalist with close ties to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked controversy on Friday when he boasted about Israeli soldiers watching his show from inside a Palestinian home raided in the Occupied West Bank, Anadolu Agency reports.

Yaniv Magal, a Channel 14 reporter, shared a video on his Telegram account that shows more than 10 Israeli soldiers watching his broadcast in the living room of a Palestinian home in the northern West Bank.

A soldier can be seen walking around the house in the video.

Magal did not specify the exact location of the raid but did confirm it occurred in the northern West Bank.

For the past two weeks, the Israeli army has been conducting an extensive military offensive in the northern West Bank, targeting the governorates of Jenin, Tulkarem and Tubas.

On 21 January, Israel launched a military offensive in Jenin, targeting the city, its refugee camp and several other towns. The onslaught later on Monday expanded to Tulkarem.

The offensive in Jenin has killed 19 Palestinians, including a child, and injured 50 others.

Three more Palestinians were killed in Tulkarem, which has been the target of a military offensive for five consecutive days.

Earlier on Thursday evening, the Israeli army carried out an air strike on the town of Tammun in the Tubas governorate, killing 10 Palestinians, according to official Palestinian sources.

The escalation in the West Bank came after a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal took effect in Gaza on 19 January, following 15 months of Israel’s genocidal war that killed over 47,000 and reduced the enclave to rubble.

Reports say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the escalation over threats from right-wing parties to bring down his government over the Gaza ceasefire, which they oppose.

Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, at least 890 Palestinians have been killed across the Occupied Territory in attacks by Israeli forces and settlers.
