Cross into a neighbouring country

Four years after the start of Syria's civil war, nearly 4 million people have fled the country to seek refuge in neighbouring states. According to the UNHCR, Turkey hosts around 1.9 million Syrian refugees, Lebanon is home to over 1.7 million (which means every one in five people is a Syrian refugee) and Jordan has registered nearly 630,000 Syrian refugees with 81,000 living in the Zaatari refugee camp, now Jordan's fourth largest city. Iraq hosts 249,726 Syrian refugees and Egypt close to 133,000.

According to Amnesty International, these five countries host 97 per cent of Syria's refugees. The strains on their resources have led to tougher controls on the entry of Syria refugees. Many are also unstable at the moment; Iraq has become a no go zone and Egypt has its own political issues.
