You pay the money

You pay the money and put your trust in another smuggler. After crossing the border in the dead of night, they take you to an abandoned house. You have no idea where you are but you are kept there for about two weeks. Eventually, you are loaded onto trucks before arriving to see the boat that will take you to freedom in Europe.

Smugglers, driven by money, have overcrowded the boat which is in poor condition (the chances of getting the boat back are slim so there's little incentive to ensure it will survive the journey) and to fit more passengers in they have cut back on food and water rations. There is no crew and a fellow passenger will be driving the boat.

But you're desperate. What else can you do?
